Elon Musk Becomes a Major Headache for Trump as GOP Lawmakers Turn Against Him

According to former GOP Congressman Carlos Curbelo, Elon Musk is reportedly causing President Donald Trump “headaches” as Republican lawmakers begin to distance themselves from the billionaire entrepreneur.

During an appearance on MSNBC over the weekend, Curbelo was asked about Musk and his involvement with the so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). This policy initiative has sparked internal debate within Trump’s circle.

“It’s obvious at this point that Elon Musk and this whole effort is causing a lot of headaches for Donald Trump,” Curbelo said, referencing a recent report about a tense cabinet meeting where Trump officials expressed opposition to Musk’s DOGE policies.

The friction between Musk and the Republican establishment appears to be growing, with Curbelo noting that members of Congress are increasingly frustrated by the tech mogul’s influence. “A lot of members of Congress are frustrated,” Curbelo said, suggesting that dissatisfaction with Musk’s role is spreading beyond the executive branch and into the legislative ranks.

The former Florida congressman pointed out that the issue is escalating as more lawmakers begin to see the real-world consequences of Musk’s policies. “Once these stories become human, everything changes,” he explained. “It’s not only these cabinet secretaries that have pushed back on the White House. There are a lot of Republicans, quietly, for now, calling the White House and saying this is too much. This is inappropriate, and it has to change.”

While Musk has maintained a close relationship with Trump in recent years, his growing political involvement—particularly in matters of government efficiency—has sparked concerns within the GOP. Some lawmakers view his influence as overreaching, while others worry about potential political fallout from his unorthodox policy initiatives.

The reported internal backlash within Trump’s cabinet suggests that while Musk remains a powerful ally in certain circles, his presence is increasingly seen as a liability by others in the party. The frustration among lawmakers could indicate a shift in how the GOP perceives Musk’s role in conservative politics.

As tensions mount, it remains to be seen whether Musk will continue to exert influence over Trump’s political agenda or whether the growing discontent among Republican lawmakers will force a recalibration of their alliance.
