President Joe Biden’s German shepherd, Commander, known for a string of biting incidents, has been removed from the White House, according to the first lady’s spokesperson, Elizabeth Alexander. The 2-year-old dog has been involved in several incidents, some necessitating medical attention.
Alexander stated, “The President and First Lady prioritize the safety of the White House staff and the security detail. They appreciate the understanding of the U.S. Secret Service as they deliberate on the next steps for Commander.” The Secret Service refrained from commenting.
Recent reports from CNN disclosed that Commander had bitten more individuals than the previously cited 11 instances. The Daily Mail showcased photos of Commander with Dale Haney, the White House grounds’ superintendent. Haney, having cared for various presidential pets for over five decades, clarified that a recent interaction with Commander was merely playful with “no bite.”
Commander, who joined the White House in 2021, is the Bidens’ second dog to display aggressive tendencies. Their other dog, Major, was relocated to Delaware after similar behaviors. Their eldest dog, Champ, passed away in 2021.
