“Resolved in Three to Five Days” House Democrats Push for Biden’s Decision on 2024 Election
Democrats in the House of Representatives are signaling that the battle over President Joe Biden’s future on the 2024 ticket will be “resolved” within three to five days, The New York Times reported.
Reporter Major Garrett noted that two anonymous senior House Democrats expect imminent action. Despite being home in Delaware due to COVID-19, Biden has indicated through public statements that he intends to remain in the presidential race.
“Each day of indecision will lead to more public calls for him to step aside. Of course, the caveat is — and has always been — that the choice is totally up to Biden,” said Garrett’s CBS colleague Weijia Jiang.
If Biden opts to step down, Vice President Kamala Harris would be the likely candidate to replace him on the ticket. However, any candidate other than Harris would face the daunting task of starting a new campaign account, fundraising hundreds of millions of dollars, and launching a national effort in less than four months, according to various political experts.
The urgency expressed by House Democrats underscores the growing pressure on Biden to make a definitive decision. With the 2024 election rapidly approaching, the party is keen to avoid prolonged uncertainty that could weaken its campaign efforts.
As the situation unfolds, political analysts are closely monitoring Biden’s moves and the potential implications for the Democratic Party’s strategy. The next few days are crucial, as Biden’s decision will shape the direction of the party and its preparations for the upcoming election.
