Joe Biden isn’t staying quiet anymore. In his first big speech since leaving the White House, the former president took direct aim at Donald Trump, calling out the impact of Trump’s chaotic push to reshape the government.
Speaking to a group of disability advocates in Chicago, Biden didn’t hold back. “Fewer than 100 days, this administration has done so much damage, and so much destruction, it’s kind of breathtaking that it could happen that soon,” he said.

He went on to accuse Trump of gutting the Social Security Administration by forcing out thousands of employees. “They’ve taken a hatchet to the Social Security administration, pushing 7,000 employees out the door,” he said, warning that these cuts are making it harder for Americans to access their retirement and disability benefits.
The 82-year-old appeared in a blue suit, speaking for about 30 minutes with American flags behind him. While he did occasionally stumble over words and cut some stories short with a quick “anyways,” he stuck to his point — warning that the program millions depend on is being put at risk.
Trump responded with a quick social media post that featured a clip of one of Biden’s rambling moments but didn’t add any comment.
Biden used his time on stage to stress just how vital Social Security is for many Americans. He said more than 65 million people rely on it, and for many, it’s the only money they have coming in. “Many Americans literally count on social security to buy food, just to get by,” he said. “If it were cut or taken away, it would be devastating, devastating for millions of people.”
He also criticized staff reductions at the agency, something Trump and Elon Musk are pushing through their so-called Department of Government Efficiency. Biden said that these changes are causing major issues, like the Social Security website crashing and people struggling to claim what’s rightfully theirs.

He didn’t stop there. Biden also took a jab at Trump’s commerce secretary Howard Lutnick, a former hedge fund manager, who recently joked that only “fraudsters” would complain about a missing Social Security check. Biden wasn’t having it.
“What about the 94-year-old mother living all by herself, who doesn’t have a billionaire in the family?” he asked.
Biden’s message was clear — he’s worried about what Trump’s doing and wants Americans to pay attention. The fight over Social Security is heating up, and Biden just jumped right back into the ring.
