During a recent fundraising event near Boston for his 2024 campaign, President Joe Biden shared with his supporters some frank thoughts about his decision to run for a second term.

He mentioned that his candidacy was influenced by former President Donald Trump’s intent to run again, as reported by The Guardian.

Biden expressed concerns about the potential autocratic nature of a second Trump presidency and the threats it could pose to democratic values. He highlighted the importance of preventing Trump from winning, noting, “If Trump wasn’t running, I’m not sure I’d be running. We cannot let him win.”

This speech reflects the Democratic Party’s broader narrative, which is focused on the risks to democracy if Trump were to return to office. Biden’s candid remarks underscore the urgency he and his party feel in protecting American democratic norms and portraying Trump as a significant threat.

Meanwhile, Trump, who hasn’t participated in the debates, continues his campaign efforts in various states and remains a prominent figure in the polls. He has been particularly vocal in his criticisms of President Biden.

During a recent event in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, attended by a large crowd, Trump delivered a vehement rebuttal to Biden’s remarks. He labeled Biden a threat to U.S. democracy and accused him of being surrounded by “criminals”.

Trump described his campaign as a “righteous crusade to liberate our republic from Biden and the criminals in the Biden administration.” He further attacked Biden, calling him “crooked” and “the most corrupt President we’ve ever had,” as reported by CNN.

Trump’s forceful stance and rhetoric suggest that the 2024 election cycle will be intensely contested and closely watched, with both parties framing the election as a crucial battle for the future of American democracy.
