Earlier this week, Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez electrified the crowd at the Democratic National Convention with a passionate speech that both denounced former President Donald Trump and ardently endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for the presidency. The New York congresswoman took the stage in Chicago to thunderous applause, wasting no time in delivering a blistering critique of Trump’s legacy and what she sees as the stakes of the upcoming election.

“Donald Trump would sell the country for a dollar if it meant lining his own pockets and greasing the palms of his Wall Street friends,” Ocasio-Cortez declared, her voice rising above the cheers. She painted a stark contrast between Trump and Harris, positioning the latter as a true representative of the middle class, grounded in her own lived experiences, as per The Guardian.

“I, for one, am tired of hearing about how a two-bit union buster thinks of himself as more of a patriot than the woman who fights every single day to lift working people out from under the boots of greed trampling on our way of life,” she asserted. Ocasio-Cortez emphasized Harris’s middle-class roots as a defining strength in her candidacy.

“In Kamala Harris, we have a chance to elect a president who is for the middle class because she is from the middle class,” she explained, highlighting Harris’s understanding of everyday struggles like affording groceries and prescriptions. “She is as committed to our reproductive and civil rights as she is to taking on corporate greed,” Ocasio-Cortez continued, further solidifying her support for Harris.

The congresswoman didn’t shy away from framing the upcoming election as a critical turning point for the nation. “America, when we knock on our neighbor’s door, organize our communities, and elect Kamala Harris to the presidency on November 5th, we will send a loud message that the people of this nation will not go back,” she proclaimed, her words met with enthusiastic cheers from the crowd, as per Newsweek.

Ocasio-Cortez’s endorsement marked a shift from her earlier concerns about replacing President Joe Biden on the ticket so late in the election cycle. Just days before Biden suspended his reelection campaign, she had warned of the “enormous peril” in such a move. However, those doubts seemed to have eased, as evidenced by her full-throated support for Harris during the convention.

“Chicago, we have to help her win,” she urged, emphasizing the historic nature of Harris’s candidacy as a “rare and precious opportunity” for the country. In her closing remarks, Ocasio-Cortez stressed the importance of down-ballot races, calling on Democrats to secure strong majorities in Congress to deliver on an ambitious agenda for the people.

“Over the next 78 days, we will have to pour every ounce, every minute, every moment into making history on November 5th,” she asserted, leaving the crowd energized and ready for the intense campaign ahead. The race for the White House is heating up, and Ocasio-Cortez’s fiery rhetoric has set the stage for what promises to be a fierce battle.
