A Florida woman has been arrested following the death of her 14-year-old daughter, whom witnesses reportedly saw being held underwater in a bathtub. Authorities are investigating the case as a potential homicide. Kelsey Glover, 35, is currently charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and battery.
However, Osceola County Sheriff Marcos Lopez stated during a press conference on Wednesday that these charges could be upgraded to murder pending the medical examiner’s ruling on the cause of death. Sheriff’s deputies responded to Glover’s home after receiving reports of an armed disturbance. Upon arrival, deputies encountered a chaotic scene.
Glover was holding a hammer and reportedly attempted to strike a witness who had tried to stop her from harming her daughter. “When the officers get there, they’re actually wrestling a hammer away from her, and she’s trying to strike the lady who is trying to prevent her from harming her daughter,” Lopez explained to Fox News.
“It was just something that we caught in the act, and God only knows which direction that was going to go if we didn’t get there on time and kick the door in.” Witnesses told police they saw Glover holding her daughter’s head underwater in the bathtub. When deputies found the teenager in the upstairs bathroom, she was unresponsive.
“They tried to stop her but were not successful,” Lopez said. “Eventually, Ms. Glover began attacking and chasing these witnesses around the house with a hammer.” The teenager was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Four people were reportedly in the home at the time of the incident: Glover, the victim, another child who lives there, and an unidentified adult resident.
Lopez also noted a history of domestic violence in the home. Glover allegedly battered the teenager’s father during a prior incident, prompting him to obtain an injunction against her. The sheriff’s office has opened a homicide investigation into the case. “It’s a dark day when things like this happen,” Lopez said. “What happened to her is unimaginable, and we are determined to get justice.” As authorities continue to investigate the motive behind the incident, Glover remains in custody, and the community is left reeling from the tragedy.
