34-Year-Old Texas Man Killed After Allegedly Beating His Wife to Death with Clothing Iron

A 34-year-old Texas man, Chance Zane Chavez, has been charged with murder after allegedly beating his wife to death with a clothing iron and abandoning her four pet dogs on a freeway. The gruesome incident unfolded last week at the couple’s Houston home, where police discovered the lifeless body of 32-year-old Kristen Chavez.

Authorities responded to a “call about a suspicious event at the residence” around 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday. Upon arrival, officers found Chavez standing in the doorway, covered in blood. “The male had blood on his arms, legs, and clothing,” the Houston Police Department stated. Chavez was immediately detained, and a search of the home led to the discovery of Kristen’s body in a bedroom.

She had suffered blunt force trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators believe a clothing iron was used as the weapon. Kristen’s family described her as a compassionate person who always tried to see the good in others, even in difficult circumstances. “She tried to see the good in people even though they tried to take advantage of that,” her brother, Devin Cervantes, told Fox 26.

Her mother, Laura Bell, added, “Even though it was not a good situation, she stayed in it, hoping that things would change.” In a further act of cruelty, Chavez allegedly took Kristen’s four dogs and abandoned them on the Katy Freeway. Three of the dogs were rescued and taken to shelters, but a Dachshund named Peaches remains missing.

“She doesn’t have any children, so these dogs are her babies,” said Kristen’s sister, Julia Green. The family has been actively searching for Peaches, pleading for the public’s help. Kristen, a paralegal with aspirations of becoming an attorney, was remembered by her family as a loving and headstrong individual. Chavez is currently being held at the Harris County Jail on a $250,000 bond, told KPRC.

His next court appearance is scheduled for Monday. Kristen’s mother expressed hope that he would remain in custody until the trial, stating, “We’re hoping that he remains in jail until the trial and throughout the trial for him to be held accountable for what he’s done.” The case has left the community in shock as Kristen’s family seeks justice for her tragic death.
