Kelly matched the description of someone involved in a report of a suspicious car, according to police. The incident began on Tuesday.
Kelly’s family, though, claims that his injuries are too serious for them to trust what authorities say happened.
The single-camera bodycam footage released Thursday afternoon appears to show the whole contact between Michigan City police officers and Kelly until he was placed into the ambulance, according to police. They claim that the information shows the extent of the officers’ operations and justifies the techniques applied.
Kelly’s family is adamant that the whole thing should never have happened. Whether it was a justified use of force or not depends on who you ask.
