The body of Alexis Schuler, a 29-year-old mother of three from Washington, D.C., was discovered in a chilling makeshift tomb at the home of her boyfriend, Devontae Gray, 30. Schuler had been reported missing last week, prompting a desperate search in Prince George’s County, Maryland.
On January 19, officers from the Prince George’s County Police Department and the Metropolitan Police Department executed a search warrant at Gray’s residence on Larchmont Avenue. What they uncovered was horrifying: Schuler’s remains were concealed behind a wall of bricks, cement, and drywall.
Police allege that Gray shot Schuler during a dispute and then attempted to conceal her body by placing it in a plastic storage bin. He reportedly built a wall under the home’s stairwell, layering it with drywall, concrete, and faux brick to hide the remains. Detectives also discovered security footage showing Gray entering his home multiple times carrying construction materials.
Court documents obtained by 7News described the discovery: “After removing the drywall, a makeshift tomb was discovered under the stairs. There was a large plastic bin, wrapped in plastic wrapping, behind a large amount of concrete that was poured by the Defendant [Gray].”
The report further stated, “After pouring the concrete around the plastic bin, the drywall was placed, and faux brick was then placed on the drywall. PGFD assisted with the demolition of the concrete and removing the bin.”
Inside the bin, authorities found a human foot buried with soil and hay, which they believed belonged to Schuler. Following protocol, forensic investigators directed the bin’s removal without disturbing its contents, awaiting further examination by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
Gray was taken into custody at the scene and, according to police, confessed to the murder. It remains unclear what specific charges he faces as the investigation continues. Schuler was remembered as a devoted mother of three.
