Ex-Wife of Celebrity LA Doctor Charged with Murder for Allegedly Hiring Hitman

The ex-wife of an “LA doctor to the stars” has been charged with his murder after allegedly orchestrating a deadly hit on him. Ahang Mirshojae, 53, also known as Ahang Kelk, was detained following the fatal shooting of Dr. Hamid Mirshojae, 61, on August 23.

Hamid, a well-respected family medicine doctor affiliated with multiple hospitals, was ambushed as he walked to his car outside the Warner Plaza Medical Center in Los Angeles around 5:30 p.m. He was shot from behind, with several bullet casings discovered at the scene. He was pronounced dead on site, told CBS News.

Initially, two suspects—Evan Hardman, 41, and Sarallah Jawed, 26—were charged last week with murder and assault with a deadly weapon. Prosecutors allege that Hardman carried out the shooting for financial gain and that the crime was premeditated, involving “lying in wait.”

In a stunning twist, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office announced charges against Ahang Mirshojae, accusing her of masterminding the killing. She faces one count of murder and one count of assault with a deadly weapon. Prosecutors allege the crime was intentional, motivated by financial gain, and carried out with the same element of premeditation.

District Attorney Nathan Hochman condemned the shocking developments. “The horror and betrayal of this crime are beyond words, and it is with a heavy heart that we must also announce that charges have been filed against Dr. Hamid Mirshojae’s ex-wife, Ahang Mirshojae, in connection with this tragedy,” Hochman said, the Los Angeles Times reported.

“The depth of the deceit and violence involved in this case is chilling, and we will not rest until justice is served.” Authorities also charged Ashley Rose Sweeting, 40, as the alleged getaway driver, with one felony count of accessory after the fact. Further complicating the case, the DA’s office revealed that Hardman and Jawed previously assaulted Hamid on May 3 using a blunt object—allegedly in Ahang Mirshojae’s direction.

Hardman was arrested in Texas on December 10 and awaits extradition to California. Jawed’s arraignment was scheduled for this week, while Sweeting pleaded not guilty on December 12. Ahang Mirshojae’s arraignment is scheduled for Monday at the Foltz Criminal Justice Center.

Dr. Mirshojae, who had remarried a year prior to his death, leaves behind a wife and a six-month-old daughter, who were visiting family in Turkey at the time of his murder. Colleagues and patients alike paid tribute to Dr. Mirshojae. Known for his kindness and laughter, he had practiced medicine for over 20 years, treating chronic conditions like diabetes and bronchitis.

“I just saw him two days ago in the morning,” said Dr. Azin Kolahi, a dentist in Woodland Hills, speaking to KABC-TV. “He always had laughter on his face. Very kind, very sweet.” A memorial has been set up outside the Warner Plaza Medical Center, where patients and loved ones have left candles and flowers to honor the doctor’s legacy.
