An elderly woman was fatally stabbed by a Maryland man who is also suspected of attacking her granddaughter

A 24-year-old man is facing accusations of fatally stabbing an elderly woman and assaulting her teenage granddaughter during a confrontation.

According to a statement from the Bel Air Police Department, officers responded to a disturbance at a residence on Bedford Road around 2:40 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 22. They discovered 73-year-old Mary Bland with stab wounds and her 17-year-old granddaughter, who had been physically assaulted but survived with non-life-threatening injuries.

Bel Air Police Chief Charles Moore stated that an argument escalated, leading to the assault. Angelo Spencer, who was acquainted with the family, was identified as the primary suspect and was seen leaving the scene, told WBAL-TV

Reports indicate that Bland sustained approximately 25 stab wounds. Court records suggest that Spencer had purchased a glass cutter and a pocket knife before attempting to break into Bland’s home. He allegedly stabbed her after she confronted him upon his entry.

Spencer denies allegations of se*xual assault against Bland’s granddaughter but admitted to assaulting her. He was apprehended within 90 minutes of the incident and now faces charges including first-degree murder, two counts of first-degree assault, and first-degree rape. Mary Bland, described as a nurse by a friend, tragically lost her life in the attack.
