A Florida sheriff’s deputy has emerged as a hero following his courageous rescue of a 6-month-old infant trapped in a wrecked car, accompanied by his swift administration of life-saving aid, all unfolding in the immediate aftermath of a crash he witnessed from his patrol car.
The harrowing incident occurred on February 8th in Englewood, when Charlotte County Deputy Sgt. Dave Musgrove observed a motorcycle speeding at over 100 mph, moments before it collided with a vehicle carrying a mother and her two young children, as detailed in a news release from the sheriff’s office. Tragically, the motorcycle driver was discovered deceased at the scene, their body wedged into the rear window of the vehicle on the driver’s side Musgrove told WBBH-TV.
Amidst the chaos, cries emanated from the car, prompting Sgt. Musgrove swiftly responded to the scene. The heart-wrenching moments of the rescue were captured on the dashcam and Musgrove’s body camera, revealing the intensity of the situation, as par reports CBC News.
Terrified mother Kayleigh Foley, whose anguish was palpable in the released video, can be heard desperately calling out for her baby amidst the wreckage. As depicted in the footage, Musgrove wasted no time in extracting a 3-year-old child, identified as Ariel, from a booster seat. Foley then alerted him to the presence of another child, a baby named Lola, still trapped within the vehicle.
Undeterred by the perilous conditions, Musgrove located Lola underneath the body of the motorcyclist, unconscious in her car seat. With the assistance of bystanders, Musgrove swiftly began life-saving measures, performing chest compressions until Lola regained consciousness. Emergency medical services subsequently arrived to provide further medical assistance.
Since the tragic incident, Musgrove has remained in contact with the Foley family, diligently checking on Lola’s progress. Despite the positive steps forward, Lola remains in intensive care, grappling with a brain injury sustained during the ordeal, according to the department’s press release.
