A Maryland father, Mark Jones, 30, is accused of fatally shooting his four-year-old son, Jacobi Marcelle, during a heated argument on Christmas Eve in Baltimore. Authorities allege that the tragedy unfolded when Jacobi asked to leave his mother’s bedroom during the dispute.

Jones allegedly shot Jacobi in the head and also injured the boy’s mother, Promises Marcelle, and their one-year-old daughter. After the attack, Jones reportedly attempted to take his own life but survived his self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Baltimore County police responded to the shooting in Rosedale’s Breslin Court area around 6:35 a.m. on December 24. A statement from the department noted that medics transported all three victims and the suspect to a hospital. Jacobi was pronounced dead, while Promyss and her daughter survived their injuries, told 11 News.

Jones has since been charged with first-degree murder, two counts of attempted first-degree murder, child abuse, and assault. Promyss, grieving the loss of her son, shared heart-wrenching details of the incident on a GoFundMe page to raise funds for Jacobi’s funeral and support her family.

“On Christmas Eve at 6:30 a.m., myself, my one and only son, and my daughter were shot by the hands of their father,” she wrote. “I was shot in my head and am fortunate enough to be here to tell this story. So is my 1-year-old daughter who was shot in her shoulder. Unfortunately, my son, who was shot in the head, did not make it.”

She added: “The agony and pain I feel is something I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy. I am trying… trying to push through for the sake of my daughter, who needs me.” A funeral for Jacobi was held at the March Life Tribute Center in Randallstown, FOX 45 News reported. Family and friends shared emotional tributes to the young boy. Family friend Reba Sturge described Jacobi as “our bright, beautiful boy who gave us four unforgettable years of love, laughter, and brilliance.”

Promyss spoke through her grief, telling mourners, “It’s crazy this is really my life right now. I lost my son. I could’ve lost my life, but God kept me here for my daughter. Forever Jacobi! Forever my son! I’m going to keep going and going until everybody knows my son’s name.”

Jacobi’s death has left a lasting impact, with loved ones taking to social media to remember him. One friend wrote, “He truly had a special place in my heart. I called him Son, and he called me his School Mom. My heart is now broken.”
