A 17-year-old from Ohio, Kaitlyn Coones, is facing serious charges, accused of murdering her 33-year-old boyfriend’s mother, Nicole Jones, in Toledo.
The authorities claim that Coones gave her boyfriend, Jonathan Jones, an ultimatum to kill his mother, believing that she disapproved of their relationship. When Jonathan allegedly failed to carry out the act, Coones took matters into her own hands.
According to reports, Coones bludgeoned and strangled Nicole Jones with a rock when she was unaware of Coones’ presence in the kitchen.
Jonathan, who was reportedly in the living room at the time, allegedly assisted Coones in disposing of the body by throwing it into a dumpster at an apartment complex, which was later taken to a landfill, ABC 13, News 19, and the Sentinel-Tribune report.
Following the murder, Coones and Jonathan fled to Mexico. During their trip, Coones allegedly confessed to the killing while speaking to a case worker.
Authorities were alerted, and an immediate investigation was launched. When they arrived at Nicole’s home, the crime scene matched Coones’ account of the incident.
In May, the U.S. Marshals Service Missing Child Unit apprehended Jonathan in Mexico, aided by the fact that he failed to disarm the GPS tracking device he was wearing since his conviction in March. At that time, Jonathan had pleaded guilty to endangering children and attempting to commit pandering obscenity involving a minor.
The charges involved engaging in sexual activities with a minor and taking explicit pictures, intending to distribute them.
Jonathan is now not only facing charges related to his mother’s murder but also dealing with previous charges. It remains uncertain whether he has legal representation. Coones’s attorney has not responded to requests for comment. Kaitlyn Coones is being tried as an adult and faces charges of aggravated murder, tampering with evidence, and abuse of a corpse.
