A three-year-old boy tragically lost his life after gunfire erupted during a birthday party at Riverland Park in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon while the child was playing on a park slide.

According to police, several individuals in two cars were involved in the shooting, though it remains unclear whether they were targeting each other or someone at the park, as reported by WSVN. Authorities have not confirmed any arrests in connection with the shooting. The young boy was rushed to Broward Health Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly after 11 p.m.

A neighbor expressed deep sorrow for the family, saying, “I feel so bad for the parents because I know their heart is very hurt just coming out here just to enjoy what somebody had put forth for kids.” It is believed that dozens of children were present at the event when the shooting occurred.

Luis Smith, an area resident, recounted the scene before the tragedy: “They had a bounce house, and they had set up for the pavilion down there. Everything was normal, everything was normal.”

Another resident lamented the senseless violence, stating, “It’s just sad that our people can’t get together and reason. As the word says, ‘Come let us reason together,’ It doesn’t have to be killing. It doesn’t have to be violence, just get together and find a way to solve things without the gun violence.”

One woman shared her shock upon returning to the park after the shooting. “I’m just shocked at this right now. I never would have thought to say, ‘Hey, it’s raining. Let’s just go, we’ll come back when it’s not,’ and then you come back to this,” she said. “To know that someone got shot, especially a child, and I have my son here.”

The community is reeling from the loss, grappling with the reality of such a tragic event occurring at a gathering meant for celebration and joy. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting as the family and community mourn the young life cut short.

“The investigation remains ongoing, and detectives are urging anyone with information about this incident or the suspects responsible to contact Detective Juan Rodriguez at 954-828-6673, the Homicide Tipline at 954-828-6677, or remain anonymous by contacting Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS,” the release reads.
