The deaths of 19-year-old twin brothers Qaadir Malik Lewis and Naazir Rahim Lewis have been ruled a “murder-suicide” by authorities, but their family is disputing the findings. The brothers were found dead on March 8 at the summit of Bell Mountain in Hiawassee, Georgia, after hikers discovered their bodies.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), assisting the Towns County Sheriff’s Office, stated that both brothers died from gunshot wounds. While autopsies are pending, preliminary investigations suggest a murder-suicide. However, the family insists this conclusion is inconsistent with the brothers’ close relationship.

“They’re very protective of each other. They love each other,” said their uncle, Rahim Brawner, in an interview with WXIA. “They’re like inseparable. I couldn’t imagine them hurting each other because I’ve never seen them get into a fistfight before.”
The twins, who were about to turn 20, had purchased plane tickets to visit friends in Boston and were scheduled to fly out on March 7, just a day before their bodies were discovered. Their family is baffled by how they ended up at Bell Mountain, located over 90 miles from their home, as they were unfamiliar with the area, told NBC News.
“How did they end up out in the mountains? They don’t hike out there, they’ve never been out there,” said their aunt, Samira Brawner. “They don’t know anything about Hiawassee, Georgia. They never even heard of Bell Mountain, so how did they end up right there?”

The GBI provided an update on Sunday, confirming that autopsies have been completed, but the official ruling is pending additional forensic tests. The family is demanding clarity and answers about the circumstances surrounding their deaths.

This tragedy follows another incident in Georgia involving twins, where a 2-year-old accidentally shot their sibling after gaining access to a firearm. The injured child was hospitalized but is expected to recover, according to WSB-TV. Authorities are investigating how the toddler accessed the weapon.
As the Lewis family awaits further details, they remain determined to uncover the truth about what happened to Qaadir and Naazir, whose lives were cut short under mysterious and heartbreaking circumstances.
