A 14-year-old teen that went missing was found dead in a Victorville field

Officials have identified a body found in a Victorville field on Monday as that of a Victorville youngster who was reported missing late last month.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release that just before 10 a.m. Monday, they received a complaint about a possibly deceased person found in a field near the Home Depot at 15655 Roy Rogers Drive.

When deputies arrived on the site, they discovered the death of a little girl in an abandoned vehicle. To determine the identity of the decedent, the county coroner took a fingerprint from the body.

Genevieve Brinson, 14, was identified as the victim, according to the Sheriff’s Department.

Brinson had been missing since February 25. According to the news release, detectives were unable to find Brinson despite an ongoing, intensive search including many resources. She had been residing in the abandoned truck with a companion, according to the inquiry.

Brinson, who was 12 at the time, had previously walked away from a group home in Calimesa, according to a news release from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department in 2020. That investigation had been turned up to the county’s Anti-Human Trafficking Task Force.

Brinson’s whereabouts at the time of her disappearance last month remain unknown. The San Bernardino County Sheriff-Division Coroner will identify the manner and cause of death. The inquiry is still ongoing, and no further details have been revealed at that time.
