16-Year-Old Girl Brutally Murdered by Texas Man Just Minutes After Dumping Him on Facebook: ‘Life Ain’t Worth Living Without You’
A 29-year-old man has been sentenced to 75 years in prison for the brutal murder of his 16-year-old girlfriend, Lourdes “Betty” Sandoval, minutes after she ended their relationship on Facebook. Irbin Vargas, then 22, was convicted of murdering Betty on September 12, 2018, just moments after a chilling conversation on the social media platform.
According to prosecutors with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, Vargas and Betty had been in a tumultuous relationship for about a year. However, after Vargas allegedly put a gun to Betty’s head, she decided to break up with him. On the night of her death, Vargas and Betty exchanged messages on Facebook. In the conversation, Vargas told Betty, “I thought you were going to be with me earlier.” Betty replied, “Lol when. When you were about to shoot me?”
Vargas responded, “Yes when I had the gun to your head, that’s why I put it down cuz I thought you meant it.” Betty then retorted, “Next time you point a gun at me, make sure you kill me ’cause I’m never talking to you again.” Vargas’ response was, “Damn bro told to Fox26houston.
In an alarming move, Vargas sent Betty a photo of himself holding a gun to his head, captioned, “Life ain’t worth living without you.” Betty, frightened by the picture and conversation, sent it to a friend. Later that evening, Betty went outside to meet a friend, likely to avoid being alone. However, Vargas followed her, grabbed her by the shoulder, and fatally shot her in the face, according to prosecutors.
After committing the heinous crime, Vargas fled the scene but was apprehended by Houston police officers soon after. He was convicted of murder last month and will serve at least 30 years before being eligible for parole.
Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg expressed, “No one should ever lose their life to domestic violence, and this case is especially tragic because this woman was so young and had so much to live for—we mourn her loss with her family.”
Assistant District Attorney Philip White, who prosecuted the case, stated, “He was a 22-year-old predator who worked to get close to a teenage girl. Five minutes after she told him that it was over for good, he killed her.”
