Will Smith recently opened up about a bizarre and unsettling experience that had him bolting from a luxury hotel in the middle of the night — all because of what he believes was a ghost.
The 55-year-old Bad Boys star shared the creepy encounter while playing a round of “True Confessions” with his longtime co-star Martin Lawrence and host Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show.

In the game, each player reads a strange or outrageous statement, while the others guess whether it’s true. Smith’s confession? “I once had to emergency check out of a hotel because of a ghost.” Naturally, Fallon and Lawrence were skeptical — until Smith began to explain the chilling backstory.
“This was probably 27 years ago,” Smith said, as the room fell silent. When asked to elaborate, the King Richard actor gave a straight-faced response that had the audience laughing and cringing at the same time. “The ghost urinated in my friend’s toilet.
And cleared all of his messages from his phone… It was the Lanesborough Hotel in London,” he said, describing the events that led to his hasty checkout. Fallon couldn’t resist joking, asking if it was “a British ghost,” to which Smith replied, “We didn’t hear it speak,” before adding, “We assumed it was British.

But it was scary enough for us to check out of the hotel.” Though Smith didn’t name the friend involved in the encounter, the Lanesborough Hotel — one of London’s most prestigious and historic hotels — has long been the subject of ghost stories and urban legends, adding a spine-chilling edge to his tale.

While it’s unclear whether the story was entirely factual (as per the rules of the game), Smith’s delivery and detail certainly made it convincing enough to creep everyone out.
The moment added some spooky fun to his promotional tour alongside Lawrence as the two gear up for the release of their latest Bad Boys film. But ghost stories aside, Smith seemed to enjoy the mix of laughter and disbelief his story stirred. One thing’s for sure: when Will Smith says a ghost messed with his friend’s phone and used the toilet — you listen.
