Former President Donald Trump’s Sunday morning post declaring “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT” on his Truth Social platform sent shockwaves through both his supporters and critics alike. The all-caps statement, made amidst attacks on wealthy Kamala Harris donors and the New York Times, sparked an immediate reaction on social media, leading to an avalanche of commentary.

While Trump has a history of making bold and often controversial statements, this particular post puzzled many, especially given the singer’s immense popularity. Lawfare senior editor Anna Bower weighed in on the situation, noting the potential political misstep. “Going after Taylor Swift is a genuinely bad campaign strategy,” she stated. “Taylor doesn’t get mad, she gets even,” referencing one of Swift’s iconic lyrics: “I don’t start sh-t, but I can tell you how it ends.”

Among Trump’s supporters, there was a notable wave of disappointment and confusion. Some urged him to shift focus, concerned about the negative impact it could have on his campaign. One supporter, DaaMaga, commented, “Why are you doing this? It doesn’t help you. Just ignore her. Focus on Kamala’s agenda.” Another, Speedy 13, added, “Oh boy… this one isn’t going to help much. Why couldn’t we just ignore her and move on?”

There was even speculation that Trump’s account might have been hacked, with S.R. Leightner expressing doubts: “I wonder if his account got hacked,” only for another commenter to agree, “That’s what I was wondering.” However, when no further clarification emerged, the conversation shifted to disappointment. Leightner later added, “The less he talks about someone, the less the news reports about them.

He’s actually calling attention to her and giving her more press. I’m disappointed President Trump even said this. It makes him look like he’s 13 – and I love the man! Trump 2024!” Many echoed these sentiments, with rjdarlin suggesting, “Maybe Delete this one Boss.” Christian Conservative also lamented the move, writing, “I love this country and I want to help your son continue your fight! You guys need another perspective desperately.”

In a direct plea to Trump, Rip1 warned, “Don’t pick a fight with Swifties. That’s a losing message. Just ignore it and move on. I would take down that post asap.” The reaction across Truth Social made it clear: while Trump is known for his brash style, even some of his most loyal followers saw this as a step too far.
