Tom Selleck is opening up about his disappointment following CBS’ decision to end Blue Bloods, the long-running cop drama in which he starred for over a decade. After the network announced that the hit series would conclude in its 14th season, Selleck, 79, shared his candid thoughts in an interview with TV Insider.

“I’m kind of frustrated,” Selleck admitted when asked how he felt about the end of Blue Bloods. Throughout the final episodes, he avoided discussing the show’s conclusion, preferring to focus on its ongoing success. “During those last eight shows, I haven’t wanted to talk about an ending for Blue Bloods but about it still being wildly successful,” he said.

According to the actor, the series remained one of the top shows in 2023-2024, even ranking number 9 in total viewers. “If you discount the three football shows, we’re #6!” Selleck exclaimed, emphasizing the show’s continued popularity.

Selleck has been vocal about not wanting Blue Bloods to end, and he expressed his disbelief over CBS’ decision to wrap it up after such sustained success. “I’m not going to turn into a bitter old guy saying, ‘Get off my lawn!’ I don’t believe in holding grudges,” he said. “But if you were to say to the television network, ‘Here’s a show you can program in the worst time slot you got, and it is going to guarantee you winning Friday night for the next 15 years,’ it would be almost impossible to believe.”

The actor also reflected on why he thinks Blue Bloods was often undervalued. “My frustration is the show was always taken for granted because it performed from the get-go. So how do I feel? It’s going to take a long time to sort all of this out.”

Selleck poignantly shared how it felt when the final episode wrapped, recounting a moment of realization. “I remember after the weekend [of the final episode’s shoot], I said, ‘I’ve got to get to bed early tonight because I have to do my dialogue for Monday.’ Well, there was no Monday. It’s just going to take a while.”

For Selleck, the end of Blue Bloods marks the conclusion of a significant chapter, but his impact on the show’s legacy will undoubtedly endure.
