Shiloh Jolie’s petition to drop Brad Pitt’s surname being dragged into court

Shiloh Jolie’s request to remove her father Brad Pitt’s surname from her legal name has been postponed. Shiloh, who turned 18 in May, is following in the footsteps of her sisters, Zahara and Vivienne, by opting for a name change. However, she will have to wait longer to disassociate from her father’s surname due to a delay in the court proceedings, People reported.

Unfortunately, the court was unable to complete the background check ahead of today’s hearing, so the hearing was rescheduled for August 19,” Shiloh’s lawyer, Peter Levine, said in a statement. “Everyone undergoing a name-change request needs to have a background check conducted by the court clerk, and because of clerical error, Shiloh’s hearing has been continued to a new date.”

Brad Pitt, 60, is reportedly distressed about Shiloh’s decision to drop his surname. “He’s aware and upset that Shiloh dropped his last name,” said a source. “The reminders that he’s lost his children are, of course, not easy for Brad. He loves his children and misses them. It’s very sad.”

Despite his distress, Pitt is reportedly still happy with his current partner, Ines de Ramon, but the distance from his children “pains him.” Pitt has previously faced criticism for not expressing the same sentiments when his adoptive child, Zahara, dropped his name.

The strained relationship between Pitt and his children stems from allegations of abuse on a private plane in 2016, which led Angelina Jolie, 49, to file for divorce. The ex-couple shares six children: Maddox, 22, Zahara, 19, Shiloh, 18, Pax, 20, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 15.

As Shiloh awaits the rescheduled hearing, the family continues to navigate the complexities of their relationships and the public scrutiny that accompanies their high-profile lives.
