Residing in the prestigious Bellevue Hill area, in their home known as Le Manoir, the Murdochs have been married since 1999, sharing a long history. This location, once a police station, is remembered for the detention of 53 individuals in 1978 during a march for gay rights and the decriminalization of same-sex relationships. This march, marred by violence, would later evolve into the celebrated Sydney Mardi Gras, an event that has gained acknowledgment and celebration over the years. In a significant move towards reconciliation and acknowledgment of past injustices.
The New South Wales Police Force issued an apology in 2016 for the violence that occurred during the original march, marking a step forward in the relationship between law enforcement and the LGBTQIA+ community.
