Sally Struthers, the 77-year-old actress and activist, recently opened up about an uncomfortable encounter with the late Betty White that left her feeling disheartened. During an appearance on the Let’s Talk About That! podcast, hosted by Larry Saperstein and Jacob Bellotti, Struthers shared why she never developed a friendship with the beloved Golden Girls star.

“I know everybody loved her so much they signed petitions to get her to guest-host Saturday Night Live, but I didn’t have such a great experience with her,” the Gilmore Girls actress revealed.

Struthers described White as “very passive-aggressive” and recounted an incident that occurred while the two were working on a game show pilot at White’s home in Los Angeles. The event, she said, left her feeling humiliated.

According to Struthers, White had her housekeeper bring out a plate of snacks for everyone present. However, when Struthers reached for a cookie, White made a pointed comment in front of the group.

“So I reached for a cookie, and she said in front of everyone, ‘Oh, I wouldn’t do that if I were you, dear. You don’t need a cookie,’” Struthers recalled. “Totally fat-shamed me in front of the rest of the people in the room.”

The comment left Struthers feeling awkward and self-conscious. “It was just an uncomfortable moment,” she admitted, expressing her disappointment in the interaction.

Struthers’ candid recollection provides a different perspective on White, who was widely adored for her humor and charm. While acknowledging White’s public reputation, Struthers was clear that her personal experience did not align with the glowing admiration others had for the late actress.

The revelation offers a glimpse into the complexities of personal relationships in Hollywood, where public personas often differ from private interactions. Despite her negative experience, Struthers continues to be celebrated for her contributions to the entertainment industry, just as White remains an icon in her own right.
