Michael Jordan’s iconic suburban mansion in Highland Park has officially sold for $9.5 million, a significant drop from the original $29 million asking price when it was first listed over a decade ago. The 56,000-square-foot property, known for its full-size basketball court, putting green, cigar room, and nine bedrooms, has become a popular tourist destination over the years, with many visitors stopping by for a photo of the famous front gate.

Maggie Antillon, visiting the mansion with her father, shared her connection to the house. “The reason my dad and I have all these amazing memories is he’s the number one Michael Jordan fan,” she said. Although Jordan is no longer the owner, the home remains a cherished landmark for fans of the NBA legend, according to Daily Mail.

Chicago Tribune real estate columnist Bob Goldsborough commented on the unusual length of time the home had been on the market, saying, “I don’t think we’ve seen something where a home owned by a celebrity has been on the market for this kind of time.”

Jordan first listed the mansion in 2012, seeking $29 million. The sprawling estate includes a full-size basketball court, workout room, cigar room, and 15.5 bathrooms. After several price reductions, Jordan lowered the asking price to $14.855 million in 2015, with the figure cleverly adding up to his famous jersey number, 23.

Goldsborough noted that Jordan held firm on that price for nine years, never budging until the sale was finalized. Despite Jordan’s superstar status, the mansion faced challenges in attracting a buyer. The estate is somewhat landlocked, surrounded by other houses, railroad tracks, and a nature preserve, making the land difficult to develop. “The land isn’t easily developable,” Goldsborough explained.

The buyer, whose identity remains undisclosed, closed on the property for $9.5 million. It remains unclear what plans the new owner has for the estate, or whether they will keep the iconic 23 on the front gate. As Jordan’s mansion finally changes hands, fans and real estate experts alike continue to reflect on the home’s enduring legacy as a symbol of the basketball legend’s success.
