Meghan McCain, the former conservative co-host of The View and daughter of the late U.S. Senator John McCain, recently took a jab at Arizona Senate candidate Kari Lake in light of reports that the far-right hopeful is trailing significantly behind her Democratic opponent.

Yashar Ali of HuffPost shared the news on X, formerly known as Twitter, stating, “A new Fox News poll reveals that Arizona Democratic Congressman Ruben Gallego is leading Republican Kari Lake by a whopping 15 points. Ruben Gallego: 56%, Kari Lake: 41%.”

McCain quickly responded to the polling data, quipping, “It’s almost like Kari may have needed some McCain Republicans after all…” Her comment highlighted the importance of winning over moderate Republicans, a demographic Lake alienated during her previous gubernatorial campaign.

Lake lost the respect of many McCain supporters when she famously told those who backed the late Senator John McCain to “get the hell out” of her gubernatorial campaign event in 2022. This divisive rhetoric created a rift between Lake and a significant portion of Arizona’s Republican base, which McCain has long influenced.

In February, Lake attempted to make amends, but McCain was not receptive. She responded harshly to Lake’s efforts, saying, “Kari Lake is trying to walk back her continued attacks on my Dad (& family) and all of his loyal supporters after telling them to ‘get the hell out’. Guess she realized she can’t become a Senator without us.”

McCain didn’t stop there, adding, “No peace, b—h. We see you for who you are – and are repulsed by it.” Her pointed words underscored the deep-seated animosity between Lake and the McCain wing of the Republican Party.

Lake’s campaign took another blow earlier this week when the Arizona Police Association (APA), a group that “typically supports Republican candidates for elected office,” endorsed her opponent, Congressman Ruben Gallego, over her. The APA’s endorsement is a significant setback for Lake, as the group emphasized their desire for a U.S. Senator who can unify and improve society for all Arizonans.

“The APA does not take our endorsement lightly; we recognize the importance of having a U.S. Senator that can bring people together to improve society for all,” the group stated in their press release. “We believe Congressman Gallego will be that U.S. Senator.” As the race for the Arizona Senate seat continues, Lake’s struggles to gain traction among key voter blocs, including the influential McCain Republicans, could prove decisive.
