Liam Payne Dead at 31 After Fall from Buenos Aires Hotel Room: ‘He Wanted to Prove He Could Be a Good Dad’
Liam Payne, former One Direction star, tragically passed away at the age of 31 after falling from a third-floor hotel balcony in Buenos Aires. The singer, who had been vacationing with his partner, Kate Cassidy, was found dead after sustaining injuries described as “incompatible with life.” The incident occurred after the couple was seen attending a concert by Payne’s old bandmate, Niall Horan.
Emergency services, including police, fire brigade, and paramedics, responded to the scene following reports of erratic behavior inside the hotel, possibly linked to substance use. According to eyewitnesses, authorities were alerted after hotel staff found Payne’s body in the inner courtyard of the hotel. Initial reports suggest he fell from a height of 13 to 14 meters, with further confirmation by Alberto Crescenti from the local ambulance service, who stated Payne had fallen around 40 meters, leading to “severe injuries.”
Before his untimely death, Liam Payne had rekindled his relationship with ex-girlfriend Cheryl, the mother of their son, Bear. Payne and Cheryl, who first confirmed their relationship in 2016, had parted ways in 2018 after a two-and-a-half-year romance. Despite their split, they continued co-parenting their son, though Payne had been less visible in Bear’s life in recent years. However, an insider revealed that Payne had been working hard to prove himself as a father and to show Cheryl that he was ready to be more involved, reports the Mirror US.
“We don’t see a lot of Bear on Liam’s social media, but I think he wants to prove to Cheryl that he’s getting his life together,” a source told OK! magazine. “He really wants to be a good dad, especially with Cheryl going back on tour with Girls Aloud.”
Payne had openly discussed his personal struggles following the birth of Bear and the breakdown of his relationship with Cheryl. In a candid podcast interview in 2022, Payne expressed deep admiration for Cheryl, calling her “the best mum in the world” and speaking fondly of Bear, whom he described as a “lovely, lovely boy.” He also admitted that Bear’s arrival had “ruined” his romantic relationship with Cheryl “for all the right reasons.”
In recent years, Payne has faced numerous personal challenges, including stints in rehab and battles with mental health issues. He had been open about the emotional scars left by early fame and the difficulties he encountered after One Direction’s hiatus in 2016. Despite his struggles, Payne had been determined to rebuild his life and relationship with his son before his tragic passing.
