Khloe Kardashian opens up about Lamar Odom relationship

Khloe Kardashian is opening up about her unexpected reunion with ex-husband Lamar Odom, revealing the emotional toll it took on her. After nearly a decade apart, the two crossed paths again, leaving Khloe with mixed emotions.

During the March 6th episode of The Kardashians, Khloe, 40, confided in her best friend, Malika Haqq, about how she was still trying to understand what the meeting truly meant. “I think I’m still processing what this meeting meant to me,” she admitted.

Khloe reflected on Lamar’s deep connection to her family, especially after the passing of her father, Robert Kardashian Sr., in 2003. “Because our Dad died so young, Lamar was the first man that ever came in our lives that was like, the head of the household. For all of us. Lamar was everyone’s protector. Everyone — even if someone was older — looked up to Lamar,” she shared.

Lamar, a former NBA star, was once adored by the Kardashian family, and Khloe acknowledged that they placed him on a pedestal—rightfully so. “It made me sad because the demise of Lamar hurt and affected every single one of my family [members]. We still love him and cherish him, but that man is just not there,” she said.

Her emotions were especially complex when she saw him at Malika’s house. “Seeing him at Malika’s, I was just like, I can’t help you anymore. You’ll never be the person that we all idolized,” she admitted.

The reunion was even more poignant because Khloe and Lamar had not spoken in six years. While he appeared “visibly uncomfortable,” Khloe surprisingly felt detached. “I have dealt with so much trauma in this relationship for years and this was such the love of my life that to learn how to unlove someone — to have to go through all that — it’s almost like a death,” she confessed.

The former couple’s tumultuous relationship played out publicly, from their whirlwind 2009 wedding to their heartbreaking split in 2013. Despite their divorce, Khloe stood by Lamar when he suffered a near-fatal overdose in 2015. Over the years, however, they drifted apart.

Now, after nearly a decade, their brief encounter stirred up old feelings—not of romance, but of loss. The woman who once fought so hard to save Lamar realized she could no longer be his savior.

While Khloe has since moved on, focusing on co-parenting her children with ex Tristan Thompson, the past will always be a part of her. And though she still cherishes the good times, she’s finally come to terms with the fact that some things, and some people, can’t be saved.
