Kelly Clarkson brought to tears after her return from mysterious absence

Kelly Clarkson made an emotional return to her hit talk show this week, marking her first appearance since stepping away unexpectedly for what was described as a “personal matter.” The beloved singer and host was warmly welcomed back, but it was a heartfelt moment with guest Sterling K. Brown that truly stirred the emotions in the studio.

According to Daily Mail, Clarkson became visibly emotional during an interview with the This Is Us and Biosphere star, who shared a deeply personal story about his name that struck a powerful chord with the host. Brown, 49, used his appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show to reveal the meaningful origin behind his first name and why he chose not to use it during the early years of his life.

The Emmy-winning actor explained that he was named after both his father and grandfather, making him Sterling Brown III. However, throughout his childhood and into his mid-teens, he went by his middle name, Kelby. “I used my middle name until I was 16,” Brown said. “He [his grandfather] passed away when I was 10, and by the time I turned 16, I hadn’t heard his name for five, five and a half years.”

Brown added that he made the conscious decision to reclaim the name Sterling at that point in his life as a way of honoring his late grandfather. Clarkson, moved by the vulnerability and sentiment behind his story, appeared overwhelmed with emotion, wiping away tears as Brown spoke.

As the show continues, Clarkson’s candid moments and heartfelt interviews remain a signature of her hosting style — and this tearful exchange with Brown stands out as one of the most touching yet. Both Clarkson and Brown reminded viewers that behind every name, every success, and every smile, there often lies a deeper story — one that can unite us in shared emotion and understanding.
