Keanu Reeves recently shared a significant challenge he faced while working on his latest book, The Book of Elsewhere. According to The Sunday Times, the 59-year-old star opened up about a technological hiccup during the writing process of the sci-fi novel, which he co-authored with award-winning author China Miéville.

“I had no idea how to use Microsoft Word,” the John Wick star confessed a somewhat humorous admission that highlights the unexpected hurdles even celebrities encounter. This challenge prompted Reeves to reach out to his collaborator for assistance.

Reeves contacted Miéville via email about three years ago, inviting him to collaborate on the book inspired by his comic series, BRZRKR. Although Miéville eventually agreed, he initially requested additional time to complete another project. Reeves recalled Miéville’s response: “He was, like, ‘Yeah, I like you, Keanu, and this idea seems intriguing. But — and I found this f****** awesome — ‘by the way I need six more months to work on a different story for myself.’”

Miéville later clarified that he “didn’t quite say it in such an offhand manner,” but this didn’t deter Reeves, who enthusiastically responded, “That to me was, like, ‘F*** yeah.’”

Reeves’ struggle with Microsoft Word is a relatable challenge for many and adds a humorous touch to his otherwise serious creative endeavors. It also underscores the importance of collaboration and seeking help when faced with obstacles, according to a synopsis.

Despite initial setbacks, their partnership showcases the blend of creative talents from two distinct realms. Miéville, known for his speculative fiction, and Reeves, with his background in action and comics, combined their strengths to craft a unique sci-fi narrative.

Reeves’ comic series BRZRKR, which inspired The Book of Elsewhere, has been well-received, blending elements of action, mythology, and existential themes. This collaboration with Miéville aims to expand on those themes, bringing a fresh perspective to the story.

Their collaboration highlights the mutual respect and admiration between the two creators. Reeves’ admiration for Miéville’s writing and Miéville’s appreciation for Reeves’ creative vision has resulted in a project that both are passionate about.

Reeves’ candidness about his technological mishap and the collaborative process with Miéville provides a behind-the-scenes look into the making of The Book of Elsewhere. This partnership not only bridges the gap between different creative fields but also demonstrates the power of combining diverse talents to produce something truly special.
