Hugh Grant has always been known for his charm and versatility, but his recent string of quirky roles has left his wife, Anna Elisabet Eberstein, scratching her head. During a lively appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, the 64-year-old actor joked about how his career choices might be a bit much for her to handle.

Grant, who was promoting his upcoming film Heretics, described his character as “weird, strange, and misshapen.” The host couldn’t resist pointing out the actor’s growing roster of eccentric roles, including his turn as an Oompa Loompa in 2023’s Wonka and Tony the Tiger in the forthcoming Unfrosted. Laughing, Grant quipped, “See, again, I think those are challenging for my wife.

Her last husband — she was married before — was a ski champion, and now she’s married to that.” Grant’s self-deprecating humor gave viewers a glimpse into his home life with Eberstein, whom he married in 2018 after years of dating. The couple, who share three children, have managed to keep much of their personal life private, but moments like these show the playful side of their relationship.

Shifting gears, the actor also shared his thoughts on the script for the upcoming Bridget Jones sequel, Mad About the Boy. While Grant hasn’t seen the finished film, he was effusive in his praise for the story. “I haven’t seen it, but I, obviously, I know the script, and I’m a harsh judge of the script, and it was really good,” he said.

The Notting Hill star went on to explain that the story, based on Helen Fielding’s book, has a deeply emotional core. “Really moving as well as funny, because it’s based on [Fielding’s] own experience of losing her husband and bringing up her kids alone,” he revealed. “It’s got a huge amount of heart. It made me cry. Have I made it sound too dumb? It’s also extremely funny.”

With a career spanning decades, Grant continues to surprise audiences with his range, from romantic comedies to oddball roles in films like Heretics. And while his wife might be baffled by some of his choices, it’s clear that Grant is embracing every opportunity to challenge himself—and entertain his fans along the way. Whether he’s an Oompa Loompa or a heartfelt storyteller, Hugh Grant remains as charming and unpredictable as ever.
