Madonna ‘Inspired’ to Donate Money to Detroit
Madonna has been ‘inspired’ to make donations to three organisations following a visit to her home city of Detroit in Michigan. Madonna recently visited her home city in Michigan and has said she wants to “give back” to the community by gifting donations to three different organizations.
According to Access Hollywood, the ‘Like A Virgin’ singer is set to provide a new facility for the Downtown Youth Boxing Gym – which provides free boxing lessons and mentoring to children. She also plans to help ‘The Empowerment Plan’ which employs women in shelters to sew garments for the homeless, as well as buy new equipment, and art and music supplies for the Detroit Achievement Academy.
Madonna has said in a written statement: “I was deeply inspired by the efforts of so many people who I met who have dedicated themselves to helping the kids and adults in Detroit elevate themselves from the cycle of poverty. … It was obvious to me that I had to get involved and be part of the solution to help Detroit recover.
“A piece of my heart will always be in Detroit, and I’m humbled to be able to give back to my community.” The statement also said that Madonna’s donations to the three organizations represent “the first phase of a long-term commitment to” the city. It is yet to be revealed how much the singer – who grew up in Bay City, Michigan, and the Detroit suburb of Rochester Hills – has donated to the cause. -femalefirst
