Colin Jost Opens Up About SNL Jokes About Wife

Saturday Night Live host Colin Jost recently shared his wife Scarlett Johansson’s reaction to some risqué jokes about her during the Christmas episode of SNL on December 21, 2024.

During an appearance on The Tonight Show, Jost admitted that the jokes, made by him and co-host Michael Che, caught Johansson by surprise.

“I’m in trouble, I think, with a lot of people,” Jost said when Jimmy Fallon asked about Scarlett’s reaction to the jokes. “Scarlett was genuinely so shocked.”

The SNL team had sought Johansson’s approval for the jokes beforehand. “They were like, ‘Hey, would you be okay if Michael made a little, like, kind of vagina joke at some point?’ She was like, ‘Sure, whatever, I’m open to it,’” Jost explained. “I didn’t know where it was going.”

The comedian recalled the moment Johansson realized the full extent of the joke. “Scarlett was backstage like, ‘Oh my god, that’s what it is!’ I can’t act that well,” Jost said, noting her genuine surprise.

Jost and Johansson, beloved by fans as a Hollywood power couple, tied the knot in 2020 and share a 3-year-old son, Cosmo. Johansson, best known for her iconic role as Black Widow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has often spoken highly of her husband in interviews, praising his humor and support.

The episode highlighted the playful dynamic between Jost and Johansson, showcasing their ability to navigate the humor that comes with Jost’s career on SNL. While the jokes may have been unexpected, the couple’s enduring bond and mutual respect continue to shine through.

Jost’s candid recounting of the moment offered fans a glimpse into the behind-the-scenes conversations that go into creating SNL sketches and the lighthearted nature of his relationship with Johansson. Despite the surprise, the episode and Jost’s anecdotes have added another layer of charm to their well-loved partnership.
