Snoop Dogg had an emotional moment on The Voice when contestant Gail Bliss, 61, reminded him of his late mother during her audition on Monday, September 30. Moved by the connection, the rapper used the show’s special replay button to secure Bliss on his team, explaining that she brought back memories of his beloved mother, who passed away in 2021.
As Bliss performed, Snoop, 52, sat in deep reflection. When her song ended, he immediately expressed the impact she had on him. “The spirit of my mother is in me right now,” Snoop exclaimed, visibly touched by the performance. He shared a personal connection to Bliss, revealing that his late mother’s sister was also named Gail. “My mother’s sister’s name was Gail, which was one of my favourite aunties. You couldn’t see me but I had my hand like this the whole way,” he explained, hovering his hand over the replay button.
Snoop then explained how the Coach’s Replay button, a new addition to the show, worked. “But they added a piece to the puzzle this year called the Coach’s Replay… so if I were to push this button right now you would be on my team,” he added. And with that, Snoop pressed the red button, causing Bliss to burst into tears of joy. She jumped up and down, overwhelmed with emotion.
After the touching moment, Snoop gave her a big hug, telling her, “my mother’s spirit is all in you right now.” His deep connection to the moment was evident, as he honored both his late mother and Bliss’s performance.
Snoop Dogg’s mother passed away in October 2021 at the age of 70 due to an undisclosed illness. In April of this year, Snoop also celebrated his mother’s memory by wishing her a “happy heavenly birthday” in another heartfelt social media post.
