Jennifer Lopez has finally spoken out about her split from Ben Affleck, just two months after filing for divorce. In an exclusive interview with Interview Magazine for their 55th anniversary issue, the star, dressed in leopard print, described the breakup as “sad” and “scary.”
Though the Atlas actress did not mention Ben directly, she reflected on the lessons she’s learned this year. The multi-talented star admitted that her life felt like it “blew up” in her face, adding to what has already been a tumultuous year for her.
Lopez also opened up about the rough patch she experienced, revealing that she felt the urge to isolate herself after the end of her two-year marriage. She told the outlet, “You have to be healthy. You have to be complete if you want something that’s more complete. You have to be good on your own. I thought I learned that, but I didn’t. And then, this summer, I had to be like, ‘I need to go off and be on my own. I want to prove to myself that I can do that.'”
When interviewer Nikki asked Lopez if handling everything at once had been challenging, the singer responded instantly, “Yes, it’s f***ing hard! It feels lonely, unfamiliar, scary. It feels sad. It feels desperate.”
Lopez emphasized the importance of finding happiness within oneself instead of seeking it from others. “But when you sit in those feelings and go, ‘These things are not going to kill me,’ it’s like actually, I am capable of joy and happiness all by myself. Being in a relationship doesn’t define me. I can’t be looking for happiness in other people.
I have to have happiness within myself. I used to say I’m a happy person but was still looking for something for somebody else to fill, and it’s just like, ‘No, I’m actually good.’” Reflecting on her journey, JLo described it as a “lifelong process” and quipped, “There’s only getting better and growing if you want to. It’s either growing or dying, and I don’t want to do the dying part.”
This revelation comes after the former couple was recently spotted walking together in Los Angeles, engaging in a heartfelt conversation. The actress appeared emotional as she met Affleck for a cozy lunch with their kids, highlighting the ongoing emotional complexity of their relationship.
