Denise Richards reveals the controlling thing Charlie Sheen did during their marriage

Charlie Sheen’s jealousy once came between Denise Richards and her longtime friend and former flame Patrick Muldoon, the actress revealed in the latest episode of her podcast Denise Richards & Her Wild Things, released on March 25.

Richards opened up about her enduring friendship with Muldoon, with whom she had a brief romantic relationship years ago. She reflected on how Sheen, her former husband, struggled with the idea of her maintaining ties with an ex.

“Mine and Pat’s relationship romantically was years ago, and it’s just a deep friendship,” Richards said. “I’m so grateful Aaron respects that because Charlie, he had a hard time with my relationship with Pat.”

That discomfort, she revealed, led to a lengthy period of silence between her and Muldoon while she was married to Sheen. “I did not speak to Pat when I was married to Charlie,” she said. “And it was hard because I didn’t want to lose him as a friend. But, towards the end of the marriage, I talked to him all the time about him.”

Today, Richards and Muldoon have rekindled their close friendship. Their bond was recently on display when Muldoon cast her as the lead in his latest rock music video, reigniting playful speculation from Richards’ daughter, Sami Sheen, told Us Weekly.

“He’s very flirty with her, I’m not gonna lie,” Sami, 21, said during the episode. “I don’t want to get him in trouble, but I feel like he might still have feelings for my mom.” Sami also expressed surprise at how Richards’ current husband, Aaron Phypers, remains so calm about the situation.

“How is he fine with it? They have like 30 years of history.” Aaron, however, seemed unfazed. “Patrick and I, we have a very good relationship,” he said. “I don’t get jealous like that.” Richards echoed the sentiment, praising Phypers for his trust and security.

“I don’t think you’ve ever felt like, ‘Oh, this is her ex-boyfriend.’ Like, I even forget I dated him.” Phypers, flashing a confident smile, added with assurance, “I’m very confident in our relationship because I know what I can do.”

The episode shed light on how past relationships, when navigated with mutual respect, can evolve into meaningful lifelong friendships—even with the challenges of jealousy along the way.
