Bill Murray Shares Unexpected Connection with Bruce Willis and It’s Melting Hearts

In a heartwarming revelation that surprised fans, comedy legend Bill Murray shared a touching story about his early connection with Bruce Willis — a now-iconic action star who once quietly worked behind the scenes at Saturday Night Live.

During an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen on March 31, the Ghostbusters and Riff Raff star took a nostalgic trip down memory lane, recalling a time when Willis wasn’t yet a Hollywood heavyweight, but rather an NBC page.

“Bruce was a page at NBC when I was on SNL. This sounds insane but his job was to come and go to the dressing rooms and refill the M&Ms and pretzels in the actors’ rooms,” the 74-year-old Murray revealed, leaving the audience visibly amused and intrigued.

But it wasn’t just a quirky tidbit about snack delivery duties — the real emotional punch came when Murray described a moment he reconnected with Willis years later, long after Die Hard made him a household name.

“I remember when I met him after he was already a successful guy, he said, ‘You and Gilda [Radner] were nice to me,’” Murray told Cohen, referring to his late friend and beloved SNL castmate, Gilda Radner.

The moment, simple and sincere, highlighted the kind of lasting impact kindness can have — even in the fast-paced, ego-filled world of showbiz.

Willis, who recently turned 70 and celebrated with his family — including ex-wife Demi Moore and their three daughters — has had a long and varied career, but fans may not have known about his humble beginnings in the NBC hallways. His eventual return to SNL as host in 1989 and again in 2013 came full circle for the star who once refilled pretzel bowls backstage.

Murray also reflected on their time together in the 2012 Wes Anderson film Moonrise Kingdom, where the two finally shared the screen.

“Moonrise Kingdom was a really beautiful, lovely movie. And I got to work with and have a wonderful time with Bruce,” said Murray, smiling warmly at the memory.

He didn’t stop there, either. “Bruce is a good guy and a good friend,” he added, clearly fond of their enduring friendship.

The rare behind-the-scenes glimpse into Willis’s early days — paired with Murray’s sentimental recollection — has struck a chord with fans, offering a refreshing reminder that every superstar starts somewhere. In a time when viral moments often come from feuds and scandals, this quiet story of respect and kindness is stealing the spotlight for all the right reasons.
