President Biden will not attend King Charles’ Coronation, but First Lady Jill Biden or Vice President Harris may

President Biden is said to have chosen not to attend King Charles’ inauguration; however, the United States may still be represented by First Lady Dr. Jill Biden or Vice President Kamala Harris.

According to Buckingham Palace sources, the royal family was recently told of President Biden’s plan not to attend the gathering as one of many heads of state slated to attend.

Despite President Biden’s absence, an official US contingent will attend the coronation, including ambassadors, diplomats, and other staff. The delegation’s members are expected to be announced by the White House in the coming weeks. Prior commitments, it is unknown what they are, are cited as the reason for Biden’s choice to skip the event, according to the DailyMail.

Because no US President has ever witnessed a British coronation, Biden’s decision is not thought unusual. Some believe that his Irish heritage or views on the monarchy may have influenced his choice. However, the president has stayed silent on the subject.

First Lady Jill Biden or Vice President Kamala Harris may represent the United States at the coronation, which will also likely include executives of state from Ireland, France, Spain, Belgium, Japan, Hungary, and Monaco. Despite some detractors urging him to reconsider, President Biden’s choice to forego the gathering appears to be final.
