“That Is Not Weird!”: Jim Jordan Defends J.D. Vance After Tim Walz’s Remark

A visibly frustrated Jim Jordan (R-OH) passionately defended Republican vice presidential nominee J.D. Vance after Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Walz referred to Vance as “weird.” During a Saturday appearance on Fox News, Jordan expressed confidence that the Republican candidates would excel in the upcoming debates against their Democratic opponents.

“I think J.D. Vance against Tim Walz, I think he’ll do great,” Jordan asserted. He was quick to criticize Walz for starting what he called “the whole weird thing,” referring to the Democrat’s earlier comment. Reflecting on a conversation he had with a group the previous day, Jordan emphasized Vance’s humble beginnings and remarkable achievements, told the Washington Post.

“I was talking to a group yesterday,” Jordan recounted, “and I said weird? J.D. Vance came from the humblest of families.” Jordan highlighted Vance’s impressive resume, pointing out his service as a Marine and his role as a U.S. Senator. “United States senator from the seventh largest state in the Union; vice presidential candidate. And he’s 40. That is not weird!” Jordan exclaimed with fervor.

“That is amazing. That is exceptional. That — that’s the American story, and they’re gonna make fun of that, right?” Jordan’s defense of Vance underscores his belief in the candidate’s abilities and the significance of his journey. “Go ahead, keep going, wait until the debates,” Jordan challenged, confident that Vance would prove his critics wrong when it matters most.

As the campaign heats up, Jordan’s comments reflect the tension between the candidates and the contrasting narratives being crafted by each side. His strong defense of Vance as an embodiment of the American dream sets the stage for what promises to be a contentious and closely watched debate season.
