“The Urgency of the Requests”: Kamala Harris Drops Hints on Vice Presidential Pick

Vice President Kamala Harris has dropped a significant clue about her potential vice presidential choice, according to a new report. As the Democratic presumptive presidential nominee, Harris has been quietly urging Wall Street backers to expedite their campaign contributions ahead of a critical deadline, Axios reported Wednesday.

“The urgency of the requests has led some donors to conclude that Harris plans to pick a governor,” Axios reports. “And not a senator, like Mark Kelly of Arizona — to be her running mate.” Among the governors reportedly on Harris’s shortlist are Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz.

Additionally, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg has indicated that he’s “probably” being vetted for the role. Sources informed Axios that Harris’s team has been highlighting a Securities and Exchange Commission rule regulating donations to state office campaigns as they reach out to donors.

“The restrictions generally apply to certain employees of financial firms — including some banks and asset managers — that do business with a state or a locality,” thewrap noted. “When a state official, like a governor, is seeking federal office, the rules are applied to the federal race. If Harris picks a governor for her running mate, the campaign expects them to be triggered.”

A campaign spokesperson clarified to Axios that Harris has not yet finalized her choice for running mate. “Any reporting on developments or updates in Vice President Harris’ running mate search is premature and speculative,” the spokesperson reportedly stated.

The final decision is anticipated by August 6, when Harris is set to launch a battleground tour. The rapid pace of fundraising and the strategic considerations surrounding SEC regulations suggest that Harris’s team is preparing for a major announcement that could shape the 2024 election landscape.

As the date approaches, speculation and anticipation continue to build around Harris’s choice, with political analysts and supporters eagerly awaiting the reveal of her potential vice president.
