Donald Trump came under fire early Wednesday morning for a controversial social media post made overnight. At around 2:00 A.M. Eastern Time, the former president took to Truth Social to make an all-caps post filled with false claims and referred to himself exclusively in the third person.
The post quickly garnered a wave of criticism from users who were particularly incensed by the timing and content. Many took to the comments to express their disapproval and frustration.
One user, @Nightwing2679, responded sharply, “This is more proof you are unfit for any office whatsoever. Ranting like a lunatic in the middle of the night.” The comment continued, “Trump is the enemy of the American people.”
“RUSSIA NEVER INVADED UKRAINE UNDER TRUMP! IRAN NEVER INVADED ISRAEL UNDER TRUMP!” the former president exclaimed before claiming, “NOBODY INVADED ANYBODY UNDER TRUMP!” “BIGGEST EVER EMBARRASSMENT IN AFGHANISTAN WOULD HAVE NEVER HAPPENED UNDER TRUMP! THERE WAS NO INFLATION UNDER TRUMP!” the ex-president claimed. “WHAT A DIFFERENT WORLD IT WOULD BE UNDER TRUMP!!!”
The backlash extended beyond just one comment. Another user pointed out Trump’s apparent avoidance of a debate with Vice President Kamala Harris. “Wow, a rambling Trump on Fox News today & it really seems like he is backing out of debating Kamala Harris. He’s such a coward. He knows she would wipe the floor with him,” the comment read.
In another response, @tomhauburn addressed Trump directly, referring to him as “DON OLD” and reminding him of his previous statements about Russia. “DON OLD, have you forgotten you stated Russia invading was Brilliant,” the user wrote. They went on to criticize Trump’s honesty and decisions, stating, “That withdrawal was your idea. Can you manage to not lie your way out of every hour of every day? You [bat] poop crazy.”
The flurry of comments highlights the ongoing division and intense reactions that Trump continues to evoke with his social media activity.
