Royal Expert Explains Why Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Won’t ‘Command Attention’ Against the Royal Family: ‘Increasingly Irrelevant
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are finding it increasingly difficult to capture attention compared to the Royal Family, making them increasingly irrelevant, according to royal expert Jennie Bond. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have often timed their personal announcements to coincide with major royal events, a tactic that has prompted Bond’s commentary.
One notable instance occurred in March when Meghan launched her new lifestyle brand, American Riviera Orchard, on the same day as the Diana Legacy Awards, which both Prince Harry and Prince William attended. This overlap sparked discussions about the couple’s media strategies.
“I can’t honestly imagine that they are sitting there scheming to make announcements on the same day as a royal event. Surely they are bigger than that?,” she remarked to OK!. She added: “It’s true that there have been some rather strange coincidences in the past about the timing of some of their announcements. But I think they are becoming less and less relevant to the news over here, and the Royal Family will command the attention every time.”
The pattern continued with the launch of new products from Meghan’s brand on the day of Trooping the Colour. Just two hours before the parade, the Duchess introduced raspberry jam and dog biscuits to her product line.
In contrast, Princess Kate made significant headlines by making her first public appearance amid cancer treatment during Trooping the Colour. Accompanied by her three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, Kate’s presence attracted global media coverage.
Jennie Bond’s insights suggest that despite their efforts, Harry and Meghan are struggling to maintain their relevance and capture public interest in the face of the Royal Family’s prominent events. This ongoing dynamic highlights the challenges the Sussexes face as they navigate their public image post-royal life.
