Lip Reader Reveals Trump’s Warning to Macron Before Meeting Zelensky at Vatican

A professional lip reader has revealed the tense words President Donald Trump whispered to French President Emmanuel Macron moments before his surprise meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at Pope Francis’ funeral.

At St. Peter’s Basilica, Trump and Zelensky crossed paths for the first time since their explosive White House confrontation. In a surreal setting, the two leaders pulled up chairs for a one-on-one conversation, surrounded by French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, as photographers captured the significant moment.

Amid the solemn atmosphere, one exchange stood out sharply. As Macron moved in to warmly embrace Zelensky, Trump quickly pulled the French leader aside and delivered a pointed warning, according to professional lip reader Nicola Hickling.

Hickling told The Sun, “Donald reaches his hands out to both of them and brings them towards him. He says to Macron, ‘You are not in the right here, I need you to do me a favor, you should not be here.’ Zelensky nods in agreement, and the vicar, who is in front of the camera, turns his head to the side, looking worried at what he has heard between them.”

Since Trump’s return to the White House in January, relations with European allies have been tense, particularly over Ukraine. Under Trump’s leadership, Washington has been urging Ukraine to negotiate peace by potentially ceding Crimea and other Russian-occupied territories—an idea firmly rejected by Zelensky.

Zelensky maintains that Crimea was an integral part of Ukraine for 23 years before Russia seized it, and conceded that the region would “violate” Ukraine’s constitution. Instead, Zelensky demands that Russian President Vladimir Putin end the conflict unconditionally, Metro reported.

Footage of Trump and Zelensky’s private meeting was also analyzed by Hickling, who observed Zelensky telling Trump, “I would like you to do that, but not this way.” After their emotional meeting, Zelensky shared a heartfelt message on social media. “We discussed a lot one-on-one. Hoping for results on everything we covered. Protecting the lives of our people. Full and unconditional ceasefire.

Reliable and lasting peace that will prevent another war from breaking out. Very symbolic meeting that has the potential to become historic, if we achieve joint results. Thank you @POTUS,” he wrote. The Vatican meeting came amid escalating violence, with Putin’s latest missile strikes on Kyiv killing at least 12 people.

The attacks drew strong condemnation from Trump, who wrote on Truth Social, “There was no reason for Putin to be shooting missiles into civilian areas, cities, and towns over the last few days. It makes me think that maybe he doesn’t want to stop the war, he’s just tapping me along, and has to be dealt with differently, through ‘Banking’ or ‘Secondary Sanctions?’ Too many people are dying!!!”

This marks the first direct dialogue between Trump and Zelensky since their fiery Oval Office confrontation in February, where Trump accused Zelensky of “gambling with World War Three” and ordered him to leave. The gathering at the Vatican, attended by hundreds of dignitaries, saw Zelensky greeted with a wave of applause, signaling ongoing global solidarity with Ukraine.
