A 6-year-old Mississippi girl died in a heartbreaking accident after becoming trapped inside a livestock barrel on her family’s property, authorities confirmed Thursday.
Gracelynn Vick was reported missing Sunday evening in Harrison County after her family last saw her playing outside. Following an intense six-hour search, deputies discovered her body inside a 58-gallon barrel used for animals, according to WDBJ.

Investigators believe Gracelynn climbed into the barrel while playing and accidentally closed the lid from the inside, causing it to become stuck. Trapped in the confined space, she succumbed to heat stress and lack of oxygen, conditions the sheriff compared to being locked inside a hot car.
Home surveillance footage helped authorities determine the incident was a tragic accident with no signs of foul play. A final autopsy report is expected in the coming months.
