It’s been five years since Prince Harry stepped back from royal duties, a move that shook the public and the Royal Family itself. Since then, his once-close ties with several senior royals have weakened, especially with his older brother, Prince William. The Duke of Sussex’s decision to share his version of life inside the monarchy through his Netflix docuseries and explosive 2023 memoir Spare only deepened the divide.
But despite all the fallout, a couple of royal allies still haven’t turned their backs on Harry. According to former royal butler Paul Burrell, Harry remains closest to Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, his cousins who’ve stayed supportive through the drama.

“I think Harry is closest to the York sisters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie,” Burrell shared in an interview with Genting Casino. “They’re from the same era as him, similar age, and the younger members understand how archaic the rules can be — and don’t always agree with them.”
He added, “Harry, Eugeni, and Beatrice live in the real world now, but most of the other royals don’t. Eugenie and Beatrice have to go out, catch a bus, and walk down the street like the rest of us. Harry, being such a rebel, has made him lose favour with the establishment and the senior royals.”

Burrell pointed out that while most royals align themselves with King Charles, Prince William, and “the court,” Beatrice and Eugenie continue supporting Harry, even at a personal cost. “The younger royals understand his position with everything and the court this week and support him to a cost — their own cost,” he said. “There are two different camps forming around Harry and Meghan now.”
His comments follow recent speculation about a supposed rift between Harry and Eugenie after she was seen at lunch with Piers Morgan, a well-known critic of the Sussexes. However, sources say the rumour is nothing more than that.

“The Duke remains close to Princess Eugenie. They always have and always will be,” a source told People magazine, confirming that the cousins’ bond is still intact. Princess Eugenie herself has chosen to stay silent about the situation, keeping her relationship with Harry private, just the way they’ve always liked it.
