Obama’s $18M Consulting Fee? What He’s Allegedly Charging the Biden White House

Former President Barack Obama has once again become the subject of online speculation, with a viral claim suggesting he billed the Biden administration $18 million a year for consulting services. The rumor, which began circulating widely across platforms like Facebook, X, TikTok, and Threads in April 2025, quickly gained traction—but fact-checkers confirm it has no basis in reality.

The post, which appeared to originate from a Facebook user, read: “Remember when Obama said he wished he could find someone to run another term for him, that he could control… then they literally did it right in front of us??????? Well, Breaking News… DOGE found payments to

for $18 million A YEAR for ‘consulting’ from Biden and his administration.”

On X, another user tagged Elon Musk, urging him to investigate the alleged payments: “We pay him for the rest of his life, why should we double pay him to rip us off more? Please put him in jail.”

However, this sensational claim originated from a satirical article published by the Dunning-Kruger Times, a website that openly labels its content as “parody, satire, and tomfoolery.” The website’s About page makes it clear that nothing published on the site should be taken as factual news.

Fact-checking site Snopes quickly debunked the claim, pointing out that the satirical article not only falsely alleged that Obama was charging the Biden administration through a fictional company called “Hope & Invoice LLC,” but also misattributed quotes and misrepresented past statements from public officials.

The article in question claimed that Obama was receiving $18 million annually for consulting, though the first line of the piece contradicted its own headline, stating the amount was actually “$18 million over four years.” Further searches yielded no record of a registered business named Hope & Invoice LLC.

Additionally, the piece falsely attributed a quote to House Speaker Mike Johnson, claiming he had called the supposed payments “unprecedented corruption.” While Johnson did use those words, he said them in 2024 in a completely different context—while discussing Republican efforts to impeach President Biden.

The story also included bizarre and unfounded claims, including one suggesting that Vice President Kamala Harris “eats crayons”—a remark repeated in social media reactions but unsupported by any credible source. In short, there is no truth to the claim that Barack Obama is being paid $18 million a year by the Biden administration. It is a satirical fabrication that has been widely misinterpreted and shared online as fact.
