President Donald Trump might soon fulfill a long-standing aspiration—hosting a grand military parade through Washington, D.C. Trump previously attempted to organize a similar event during his first term but abandoned the idea due to budgetary concerns.
Now, according to reports from the Washington City Paper, plans are underway to hold a large-scale parade on June 14, marking the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army and coinciding with Trump’s 79th birthday.

While specifics remain under development, local officials have started receiving preliminary notices. An anonymous D.C. source familiar with the planning stated that the parade would begin at the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, and cover a four-mile route concluding at the White House.
“It’s not clear to me what the scope of a parade would be,” commented Arlington County board chair Takis Karantonis. He emphasized sensitivity toward military veterans, noting, “I would hope the federal government remains sensitive to the pain and concerns of numerous [military] veteran residents who have lost or might lose their jobs in recent federal decisions, as they reflect on how best to celebrate the Army’s anniversary.”

Karantonis confirmed receiving a “heads up” from the White House about the event on Friday, though many details remain undecided. Meanwhile, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser’s office has not issued a formal response. Bowser previously opposed Trump’s earlier parade proposal seven years ago, which was estimated to cost nearly $100 million.

At the time, local officials argued that heavy military equipment, such as tanks, could severely damage city streets, resulting in additional costs exceeding $20 million for repairs and security.
Responding then via Twitter, Trump criticized local officials, posting, “The local politicians who run Washington, D.C. (poorly) know a windfall when they see it. When asked to give us a price for holding a great celebratory military parade, they wanted a.
