As the application deadline looms, millions of eligible Americans are running out of time to claim their Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments — a vital lifeline for many with limited income or disabilities.
With the next SSI payments scheduled for April and May, individuals who haven’t yet applied are being urged to act fast to avoid missing out on hundreds of dollars in financial support. SSI benefits are typically distributed on the first of each month, unless that date falls on a weekend or federal holiday.

This year, April’s payment will be made on Tuesday, April 1. May will bring two payments: one on May 1 for that month, and a second on May 30, which will cover June. As a result, no payments will be made in June, making it even more urgent for eligible individuals to ensure they’re enrolled in time to receive upcoming disbursements.
Roughly 7.4 million Americans currently receive monthly SSI payments, designed to help individuals with disabilities or very low incomes. A third of recipients also collect Social Security benefits, but many eligible Americans still have not applied and may be at risk of missing much-needed financial aid.
Those who may qualify include adults aged 65 and older, individuals with qualifying disabilities, and children with disabilities. Generally, eligible individuals must earn less than $2,019 per month from work to qualify.

“If you haven’t yet applied for SSI and believe you qualify, don’t wait,” officials urge. Applications can be submitted online via the Social Security website, by visiting a local office, or by calling 1-800-772-1213 between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m., according to USA Today.
Looking ahead, future SSI payments are scheduled for July 1, August 1, August 29 (for September), October 1, October 31 (for November), December 1, and December 31 (for January 2026).

Additionally, new identity verification requirements will go into effect on March 31, which could make the application process more stringent. That change adds even more urgency to act now.
Delaying your application could lead to postponed or missed payments, creating unnecessary financial stress. Eligible individuals are strongly encouraged to take immediate steps to secure their benefits and avoid falling through the cracks.
Don’t wait — take action now and ensure you receive the support you’re entitled to.
