Former White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci issued a blunt warning on Friday evening, suggesting that President Donald Trump isn’t as fond of blindly loyal allies as many might believe. In fact, Scaramucci claimed that behind closed doors, Trump “used to deride the sycophants privately.”
Appearing on CNN’s OutFront, Scaramucci addressed the growing perception that Trump surrounds himself with MAGA loyalists who echo his rhetoric and style. Host Erin Burnett pointed out that Vice President J.D. Vance has gone to “great pains” to mimic Trump, even adopting identical phrasing and fashion choices.

Burnett played a supercut of Vance repeating Trump’s catchphrases, including “they just don’t have the cards” and “the U.S. is done being the piggybank of the entire world.” “He’s even looking a lot like Trump,” Burnett remarked. “There was a night, Anthony, where they even had the exact same tie color… as if they were going to a wedding. Is this exactly what Trump wants to see and hear?”
Scaramucci acknowledged Vance’s mimicry, calling it “modeling and mimetic,” but said it was a clear miscalculation. “You’ll see the full capitulation, Erin, when he shaves his beard and he goes the full George Steinbrenner route with Donald Trump, without having the full Boston Red Sox reliever beard,” he joked.

Despite acknowledging Trump’s charisma — or “rizz,” as Scaramucci phrased it — he made it clear that Trump does not appreciate overly eager imitation. “J.D. Vance hasn’t proven that. I think it’s probably annoying to the president that he’s over-molding him. People make this mistake about President Trump. I don’t think he likes the obsequiousness stuff.”

Scaramucci also pointed to a now-notorious Signal group chat, in which members of Trump’s inner circle competed to outdo each other with messages they believed the president would want to hear. “I don’t think he likes that,” Scaramucci said. “He used to deride the sycophants privately. I never saw him say, ‘Oh wow, you know, J.D. Vance said exactly what I said.
That’s great.’ That’s just not his personality, Erin.” He concluded with a prediction: “Vance will go the way of Mike Pence,” warning that Trump will ultimately render his vice president “irrelevant.”
